Epilepsy Education + Videos for Teens

We have created a collection of resources for young people with epilepsy to help them understand more about epilepsy and live well with their chronic illness. These resources are available below and include a series of short education videos, a personal epilepsy profile to assist with better understanding of the young person's diagnosis and how to manage it, and a mental health directory that provides helpful contact numbers and links if a young person is experiencing distress.

The short epilepsy education series covers the following (scroll down to view):

  1. Introduction
  2. What is epilepsy and what causes it?
  3. What are seizures and seizure triggers?
  4. Epilepsy Investigations
  5. Epilepsy Medications
  6. Seizure Safety
  7. Moving on to Adult Healthcare Services

The Living Well with Epilepsy video is also included below and covers important information for young people on how to stay safe and live well with epilepsy.

Personal Epilepsy Profile

This form is to help assist with self-education about a young person's own diagnosis. It can be printed and completed with the assistance of the treating doctor once a diagnosis of epilepsy has been made.

Mental Health Directory (handout)

The Mental Health Directory for patients and families is a printable handout that provides contact details for a range of mental health services available in Greater Sydney and regional NSW. It also provides links to electronic resources and e-mental health programmes as well as phone numbers for agencies that provide support via telephone. The list is not exhaustive but should serve as a guide on resources available.
